The chemicals industry is more affected by gas shortages and rising gas prices than any other sector in Germany, forcing it to be one of the leading energy savers. Particularly energy-intensive plants are being shut down. But the general weakening of demand from industrial customers has also led to production cutbacks, with the continued operation of many plants unprofitable.
