Chemicals companies fear serious consequences in 2023 due to expensive energy, a recessionary environment, and burdensome regulation. But there is a bright spot: clearing customers' inventories could bring a positive effect if the recession turns out to be less severe than feared. Signs of this have recently been provided by the improved economic forecasts of several economic institutes. With renewed optimism, demand could rise quickly.
