Houlihan Lokey Advises Bcomp
Houlihan Lokey is pleased to announce that Bcomp, a Swiss industry pioneer and leader in sustainable lightweight material solutions for high-performance applications, has raised $35 million. The Series B round was led by BMW i Ventures with significant participation from Porsche Digital, Volvo Cars Tech Fund, Airbus Ventures, Generali, as well as existing investors. The transaction was closed on 15 March 2022.
Founded in 2011 and headquartered in Fribourg, Switzerland, Bcomp develops, manufactures, and sells its proprietary composite technologies made of natural fibres, reducing the environmental impact of products and representing an alternative to synthetic materials such as glass, carbon fibre composites, polymers, and metals. Bcomp relies on unique patented technologies and offers natural fibre composite reinforcements to its customers with its product ranges, including ampliTexTM technical fabrics and powerRibsTM reinforcement grids.
Bcomp will use this Series B investment to execute its strategic vision of becoming the global leader in advanced lightweight natural composites solutions. The new funding will help to scale the business, achieving a global commercial and production footprint, thereby maximising its sustainability impact.
Bcomp’s new investors also bring exciting opportunities in terms of business development and future collaboration. BMW i Ventures, Porsche Digital, Volvo Cars Tech Fund, and Airbus Ventures offer leading industry expertise and access to a large and international network through valuable collaboration opportunities across their ecosystem. Generali, investing through a fund managed by Ocorian Fund Management, represents a long-term financial partner for sustainable companies that seek to generate a positive social or environmental impact.
Christian Fischer, CEO of Bcomp, adds, “Together with the support of Houlihan Lokey we have identified and attracted the best strategic and financial investors we could have wished for. We are very excited to continue our growth journey and contribute to the circular economy by providing our market leading sustainable lightweight material solutions across the globe.”
Houlihan Lokey served as Bcomp’s exclusive financial advisor and assisted in initiating, structuring, and negotiating all aspects of the transaction on its behalf. This deal further highlights Houlihan Lokey’s ESG expertise, following other successful transactions involving Foxway and &ever among others, cementing its leadership position in the sustainability space and further strengthening its track record of working with the industry’s most innovative founder-owned businesses. Houlihan Lokey also supported Bcomp in its ESG positioning and transformation to fully reflect the core contribution of the company.
