Houlihan Lokey Advises HAL Investments
Houlihan Lokey is pleased to announce that HAL Investments BV (HAL) has acquired Van Wijnen Holding NV (Van Wijnen) from both the founder Klaas de Leeuw (57%) and Rabobank (43%). The transaction closed on August 20, 2020.
Since its founding in 1907, Van Wijnen has grown into one of the strongest performing construction companies in the Netherlands. The company is active in residential construction, utility construction, project development, and renovation activities. Over the past few years, Van Wijnen has witnessed strong growth on the back of favourable market trends. The company heavily invests in modular construction technologies to realise sustainable and affordable housing solutions. This includes investing in its own digitalised and robotised modular construction factories. Operating from 24 locations across the Netherlands, Van Wijnen has approximately 1,800 employees and reported 2019 revenues of €962 million.
Founded in 1873 and headquartered in Rotterdam, Netherlands, HAL is a leading private equity firm focused on acquiring significant shareholdings in companies with the objective of increasing long-term shareholder value. The company invests its own funds, allowing for long-term investment strategies and flexibility in transaction structuring and financing. HAL closely cooperates with the management teams of the companies it invests in to support them in executing their strategic plans and, where appropriate, plays an active role as a shareholder and/or board member.
Through this acquisition, Van Wijnen has found a long-term partner to support its growth strategy and assist with the further digitisation and industrialisation of the company.
Houlihan Lokey served as the exclusive financial advisor to HAL and assisted in initiating, structuring, and negotiating the transaction on its behalf. This transaction highlights Houlihan Lokey's capabilities and dedicated sector expertise within the construction industry.
