Transaction: Houlihan Lokey Advises Iron Park Capital Partners on GP Stake Sale

Houlihan Lokey is pleased to announce that Iron Park Capital Partners (Iron Park) has sold a non-controlling, minority equity GP stake to Hunter Point Capital on January 5, 2022. Iron Park is a global investment management platform founded and led by Tripp Smith. Hunter Point is the new GP stake firm founded and led by Bennett Goodman and Avi Kalichstein. Houlihan Lokey served as exclusive sellside financial advisor to Iron Park.

Iron Park Capital Partners, a global alternative investment manager with deep experience investing across public and private credit markets, announced a minority strategic investment from Hunter Point Capital, an investment firm focused on taking minority GP stakes in middle-market alternative asset managers. All proceeds from the investment will be invested in Iron Park’s balance sheet to fund the firm’s growth. Iron Park’s investment process, management, and day-to-day operations will remain unchanged.

Iron Park was established in 2019 by Tripp Smith (Co-Founder of GSO Capital Partners) to offer credit solutions designed to meet the needs of institutional investors and borrowers. The company focuses on creating long-term strategic partnerships with institutional investors globally. Iron Park’s team has extensive domain expertise across public and private credit markets. The company’s principals have invested through economic cycles and market dislocations across industries and have strong track records of creating long-term value for their investors. Iron Park pursues a selective strategy focused on identifying inefficiencies in the broader credit markets where larger alternative asset managers are less active.

Iron Park’s private credit platform, Atlantic Park, provides strategic capital to address the financing needs of high-quality companies seeking a long-term partner. Atlantic Park, established in 2020, is currently investing a $2.2 billion fund and has made opportunistic credit and preferred equity investments across multiple sectors, including healthcare, branded consumer, and business services.

Hunter Point, a new GP stake investment firm led by Bennett Goodman (Co-Founder of GSO Capital Partners) and Avi Kalichstein (formerly of J.C. Flowers), is seeking minority stakes in middle-market alternative asset managers in private equity, credit, real estate, and infrastructure strategies around the world. Launched in 2020 and headquartered in New York, Hunter Point aims to provide its partners with value-added capabilities, including strategic advice, LP capital formation, and other enterprise-enhancing services. Hunter Point endeavors to form partnerships with investment managers at inflection points in their growth and seeks to accelerate the continued development of those firms. The Hunter Point team is dedicated to pursuing long-term strategic partnerships with proven general partners who are poised to build enduring franchises and define the next generation of leading investment firms across the globe.

The transaction represents Hunter Point’s second GP stake transaction, further cementing Hunter Point as a key participant in the GP stake buying market.

Houlihan Lokey served as the exclusive financial advisor to Iron Park and assisted in marketing, structuring, and negotiating the transaction. The transaction represents another successful engagement for Houlihan Lokey’s market-leading GP Advisory platform.
