Mr. Knust is a Director in the Real Estate Valuation and Advisory Services practice within Houlihan Lokey’s Financial and Valuation Advisory business. He has more than a decade of experience and focuses on the valuation of complex property types and large portfolios for family offices, pension funds, investment advisors, Fortune 500 corporations, financial institutions, government entities, REITs, and private equity funds. Mr. Knust is based in the firm’s Chicago office.
Mr. Knust’s experience has encompassed a wide array of purposes, including tax and financial reporting, portfolio valuation, transaction opinions, litigation, diligence, and strategy. He has performed valuations for portfolios of shopping centers, regional malls, single-family rentals, market-rate apartments, seniors housing, office, and industrial facilities throughout the United States and internationally. Mr. Knust also has extensive experience with valuations of alternative asset types, including self-storage, cold storage, data centers, manufactured housing communities, student housing, life sciences, and healthcare real estate.
Before joining Houlihan Lokey, Mr. Knust served as an experienced Manager in Ernst & Young’s Real Estate Consulting group. Prior to that, he was a Senior Analyst with Integra Realty Resources (now Jones Lang LaSalle), where he performed a variety of consulting and valuation assignments.
Mr. Knust earned a B.S. in Finance and Legal Studies from Indiana University Bloomington. He holds the MAI designation awarded by the Appraisal Institute and the MRICS designation from the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors. He is a member of the National Association of Real Estate Investment Trusts (NAREIT) as well as the National Council of Real Estate Investment Fiduciaries (NCREIF). Mr. Knust is also a Certified General Real Estate Appraiser in multiple jurisdictions.
