Joseph Swanson
Senior Managing Director Co-Head of Financial Restructuring, EMEA and AsiaMr. Swanson is a Senior Managing Director and Co-Head of Financial Restructuring, EMEA and Asia, at Houlihan Lokey and currently sits on the firm’s Operating Committee, and prior to the firm’s IPO in August 2015, was a member of Houlihan Lokey’s Board of Directors. Mr. Swanson has more than three decades of investment banking experience, including corporate restructurings, M&A, and the issuance of both public and private debt and equity securities.
During recent years at Houlihan Lokey, Mr. Swanson has provided restructuring advice to a major party in interest on a broad range of situations, including Nordic Aviation Capital, Virgin Atlantic, Malaysia Airlines, Noble Group, FESCO (Far Eastern Shipping Co), Brunswick Rail, Sea Trucks, Kaisa Group, Camaieu SA, Suzlon Energy, Arcapita, BTA Bank, Ferretti, CMA CGM, Monier Group, UC Rusal, Infogrames Entertainment, Euro Disney, Millicom International, and Netia Holdings, among others. He also sits on the High Yield Board of the Association for Financial Markets in Europe (AFME).
Before joining Houlihan Lokey, Mr. Swanson worked for Bear Stearns & Co., where he managed various capital raising and financial advisory transactions as part of the firm’s generalist corporate finance group. He also managed Bear Stearns’ Latin American Structured Finance Group for three years, during which he was responsible for the issuance of the first mortgage-backed securities in Colombia and Mexico.
Mr. Swanson holds a BA in International Economics from Johns Hopkins University, a Diploma in International Studies from the Nitze School of Advanced International Studies, and an MBA from Washington University’s Olin School. He is fluent in French and conversational in Spanish and Italian.
