Mr. Sumiyoshi is a Managing Director in Houlihan Lokey’s Industrials Group. He has more than two decades of investment banking experience. Mr. Sumiyoshi has extensive M&A expertise, primarily in the automotive, machinery, metals and mining, energy, and chemical sectors. He has originated and executed numerous M&A and financing transactions for various Japanese blue-chip companies in both domestic and cross-border situations. Mr. Sumiyoshi is based in the firm’s Tokyo office.
Previously, Mr. Sumiyoshi was Co-Head of the Industrials team at GCA Corporation, which was acquired by Houlihan Lokey in 2021. He has also worked for UBS, Merrill Lynch, and JP Morgan.
Mr. Sumiyoshi has advised large-scale industry consolidations such as Nippon Steel’s merger with Sumitomo Metal Industries and Nippon Mining Holding’s merger with Nippon Oil. He is also experienced in cross-border transactions involving overseas asset sales by large-cap Japanese companies such as INPEX and Mitsui & Co.
Mr. Sumiyoshi holds a B.A. in Economics from the University of Tokyo and an MBA from the Darden School of Business at the University of Virginia.
