Mr. Kao is a Senior Vice President in Houlihan Lokey’s Financial and Valuation Advisory business, where he specializes in the valuation and financial analysis of all major property types for REITs and institutional real estate investors. He has more than 15 years of real estate experience in various roles, including valuation and financial analysis, asset management, and real estate development. Mr. Kao is based in the firm’s Los Angeles office.
Some of Mr. Kao’s notable engagements include the transaction and valuation support for an $800 million retail portfolio sale in Hawaii; valuing approximately 600 senior housing properties for a major healthcare REIT; and leading numerous multi-billion-dollar transaction opinions related to REITs and real estate funds. His experience also includes years of purchase price allocation work for numerous publicly traded REITs.
Before joining Houlihan Lokey, Mr. Kao was a Senior Associate in the Real Estate Advisory Services Group at Alvarez & Marsal. Prior to that, he was a Senior Associate in Duff & Phelps’ Real Estate Services Group.
Mr. Kao holds a B.S. in Finance/Entrepreneurship and a Master of Real Estate Development from the University of Southern California. He holds an MAI designation from the Appraisal Institute and is a certified real estate appraiser in multiple states.
