Mr. Spencer is a Managing Director in Houlihan Lokey's Financial Restructuring Group. For more than two decades, he has advised companies and creditors executing complex liability management, financial restructuring, and distressed M&A transactions in a wide range of companies and industries around the world. Mr. Spencer is based in the firm's Minneapolis office.
Mr. Spencer is a Fellow of the American College of Bankruptcy, an honorary association of bankruptcy judges, lawyers, and restructuring specialists who are admitted based on achievements in the profession. He is a nationally recognized restructuring expert in the U.S., having testified on bankruptcy matters before both the United States Senate and the United States House of Representatives. Mr. Spencer serves on the boards of Harper Oil Company, a private, family-owned business, and Milkweed Editions, a nonprofit publishing house.
Mr. Spencer’s notable creditor advisory assignments include Rentpath, the Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority (PREPA), Aceto Pharmaceutical, Mexico City Airport Trust, FGIC’s City of Detroit bond portfolio, Indiana Toll Road, Aquilex, and Hawker Beechcraft. His notable debtor advisory assignments include Carlson Travel, Worldstrides, Shopko, Gander Mountain, Hutchinson Technologies, Genmar, United Site Services, Polaroid, and Aventine.
Prior to joining Houlihan Lokey, Mr. Spencer began his career underwriting and syndicating commercial and debtor-in-possession loans at GE Capital.
Mr. Spencer holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a master’s degree from Fordham University.
