Internships

Build your skill set with real-world exposure and hands-on collaboration

Summer Internship Programmes

Our summer internship programme, which runs from June to August each year, offers penultimate-year students unique insight into what we do and a taste of life at Houlihan Lokey.

The 10-week programme takes place at our London office and operates across a number of key business areas. All interns complete a week-long training programme before linking up with their specific business area team for the remainder of their internship.

While many of our interns go on to take up Financial Analyst or Associate positions with us the following September, a summer internship with Houlihan Lokey is never just practice for the real thing. No matter which team you are placed with, you can expect real-life exposure, doing real work at the front line of projects and transactions.

Because we typically manage a greater deal volume than other firms, and our teams are smaller, your input is especially important. You’ll be expected to step up, think for yourself, and make yourself heard—because your colleagues want to hear what you have to say.

Off-Cycle Internships

Houlihan Lokey’s off-cycle internship programme takes place across the majority of our non-U.S. offices and spans our core business lines. It is open to ambitious, highly motivated applicants around the world.

Lasting between three and six months on average, the programme is an opportunity for recent graduates to learn about what we do and to gain hands-on experience in the industry.

This is not a one-size-fits-all programme. The nature of your role and the work you do will depend on your own interests, motivations, and how you apply yourself. However, you’ll be expected to make a tangible contribution to your colleagues and your team.

Learning, Development, and Mobility

The summer internship programme begins with a comprehensive, one-week training programme. From there, the training continues on the job. In return for your contribution, you can expect to receive continuous support and encouragement as well as excellent learning and development opportunities. Every day, you’ll have the chance to develop your knowledge, ask questions, and learn from some of the best people in the business.

Whichever part of the business you’re placed with, you can expect to work on real projects, supporting live deals and having a tangible impact on your team’s achievements day to day. You can also expect constant support and encouragement along the way, as well as excellent learning and development opportunities.

Our Offer

From our perspective, the summer internship programme is an excellent way for us to spot talent. It all depends on your abilities and how you apply yourself over the course of the summer, but, for the right person, the offer of a permanent position with Houlihan Lokey is very much achievable. Successful interns are invited to return after completing their studies to undertake Financial Analyst training in our offices in New York, before being welcomed as full-time members of our team.

In return for your dedicated work, you’ll gain unparalleled insight into the industry and the chance to be at the front line of real transactions while learning from some of the best people in the business.

Depending on your capabilities and contribution, you may join the many off-cycle interns who transition to a permanent position at the end of their placement, after undergoing Financial Analyst training at our New York offices.

What We Look For

We look for highly motivated individuals with a strong academic track record who are on course to achieve a 2:1 degree or equivalent. Equally, in addition to intellectual rigour, we are looking for those with the passion, hunger, and curiosity required to succeed in our industry.

Strong quantitative and analytical skills are important, as are excellent verbal and written communication skills; and, as we expand geographically, the ability to speak one or more additional languages is always helpful.

Above all, you must be highly motivated and able to demonstrate a genuine interest in the industry, along with the ability to work cooperatively with all levels of staff in a demanding and rapidly changing environment.

Our off-cycle internship programme is open to both undergraduate and postgraduate (MSc and MBA) candidates.

Rewards and Benefits

We offer students and recent graduates an exceptional platform on which to build a career, and we ensure your hard work is reflected through market-competitive salaries.

You will also receive excellent learning and development opportunities, outstanding support, world-class training, and the satisfaction of doing meaningful, impactful work.

In addition, we offer a comprehensive range of excellent rewards and benefits.

Life Within the City

At Houlihan Lokey we understand that it’s important for our Financial Analysts and Associates to have time outside of work to unwind, socialise, and pursue hobbies and interests. With offices located in some of the world’s most vibrant cities, including London, Amsterdam, and Frankfurt, you’ll find there’s always plenty going on outside the office.

We are a company of hard workers, but we are also sociable and outgoing, and we enjoy one another’s company away from work. As a Houlihan Lokey employee, you’ll get to know your new colleagues during the evenings and weekends. In addition to sharing meals, there will be opportunities to meet people firm-wide, through taking part in charity events and numerous other activities and events. For recent graduates, it’s a great way to get to know a new city as you explore and find your feet alongside like-minded people.
